Charles A. George, Founder and Senior Partner
Charles George is the senior partner and founder of the
George Law Firm LLC - Maritime Law Group. He concentrates in Admiralty and Maritime, Corporate, Civil Litigation, and Criminal law. Charles manages the George Law Firm LLC - Maritime Law Group Corporate Law practice representing clients in all of their business needs including litigation matters, intellectual property development and securitization, licensing, crisis management, asset recovery, and the negotiation of leases and other business agreements. He is also a civil mediator.
Charles is also an investment banker and has more than seventeen (17) years of experience representing clients searching for private equity funding to venture capital organizations and has successfully formulated, negotiated, and implemented strategies and funding contracts to provide for venture capital, growth capital, recapitalization funding, and mergers and acquisitions funding. He has developed successful strategies for business recapitalization, business turn-arounds, exit strategies, succession plans, and troubled investment resolution. Charles focuses on providing clients with creative and practical solutions, working with outside experts to provide practical and efficient solutions for his clients.
Charles is also a journalist - deep-sea explorer and serves as corporate counsel for Wreck Diving Magazine where he plans, manages, and participates in expeditions for wreck discovery and recovery. Charles is also Chief Legal Counsel to the Shipwreck Exploration Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding lost shipwrecks and aircraft and MIA's. He is a USCG Licensed Merchant Mariner - 100 Ton Master, professional diver, Master Scuba Diving Trainer and Technical Diving Instructor, and is involved with ongoing shipwreck exploration and professional underwater archeological efforts discovering real treasure, historical artifacts, and developing new technology for underwater archeology, and producing television programs for various networks and content for Wreck Diving Magazine.
Charles graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting – Marketing and earned a J.D. degree from the Charleston School of Law and a Masters of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Admiralty Law from the Charleston School of Law.
Charles is admitted to practice in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida and is admitted to practice in the Federal Court system in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, the United States District Court of South Carolina and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Charles is a member of the North Carolina Bar, the South Carolina Bar, the Florida Bar, the Charleston County Bar, and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Sir Francis Drake Admiralty American Inn of Court.
Charles is fluent in all German dialects, both oral and written, as well as conversational Spanish.

WILLIAM HAMMETT, Of Counsel
William Hammett serves as a consulting attorney for the George Law Firm, LLC-Maritime Law Group. Prior to working with the George Law Firm, LLC-Maritime Law Group, William served as the Managing Associate for Cobb, Smith and Frost, LLC, another Charleston-based law firm. His primary areas of practice include Employment Law, Contract Law, Family Law, Criminal Defense, and Defamation Law. William also has excellent experience in collections, personal injury/wrongful death, and working to resolve family and custody issues - dispute resolution with the South Carolina Department of Social Services.
William was born and raised in the Upstate of South Carolina, in Union County. He earned his J.D. from the Charleston School of Law and his undergraduate from the University of South Carolina Upstate, with a BS in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting. He also earned a minor in Spanish while in undergrad.
Prior to entering law school, William worked in the Student Housing and Construction Industries.
William is alicensed in South Carolinaand Georgia and is a member of the South Carolina Bar, Georgia Bar, Charleston County Bar, and the American Bar Association.

Shawna R. Hilleary, Senior OF Counsel
Shawna R. Hilleary is a transactional attorney licensed in California and Tennessee. Her practice encompasses all aspects of the entertainment, arts and media industries, including record companies, publishing companies, artists, songwriters, authors, producers, managers, production companies, start-up companies, and other media entities.
Ms. Hilleary started her career at Restless Records where within two years she was promoted to head the Business and Legal Affairs department. During her tenure at Restless Records, Ms. Hilleary was responsible for handling all legal and business matters and took an active role in the strategic decision making process involved in running a record label. After leaving Restless Records, Ms. Hilleary co-founded Artist Law Group, an entertainment law boutique with offices in Los Angeles and Nashville, where she built a diverse entertainment practice. Her clients include Tesla, Park The Van Records, Drive-Thru Records, West Aspen Merchandising, Secret & Whisper and Davie-Brown Entertainment, and she has worked on award winning motion pictures such as “Rize,” “Riding Giants” and “Coraline.”
Ms. Hilleary is a member of the California Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, Source, the Copyright Society of the South, the American Bar Association’s Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries. She is also a published author and frequent speaker at industry events and educational seminars including South By Southwest, Mob Fest, California Lawyers for the Arts; Ruach Music Ministry, Lipscomb, MTSU, the Handy Music Festival, and the South Carolina Entertainment & Sports Law Symposium. Additionally, she served as legal consultant for “The Musician’s Handbook, A Practical Guide to Understanding the Music Business,” a Billboard Publication.
In addition to her law practice, Ms. Hilleary serves as Legal Director for The A21 Campaign (East Coast). She also served as Director for the 2007 and 2008 Nashville Screenwriters Conference.
